Women's Works Young Composer Competition

Women’s Works of Ithaca is pleased to announce a Young Composers Competition. Women’s Works is dedicated to performing and promoting music written by women. This competition encourages the development of emerging female composers by providing a professional performance and monetary prize of $100 for the grand prize entry. The selection committee will meet in February 2015 to award the grand prize along with winners for categories for 1) under 19 and 2) 19 – 22 years old. Winning compositions under 5 minutes will be performed and recorded in March 2015 by Women’s Works.


  • Composers must be female, and no older than age 22 by January 1, 2016.

  • Submissions of short works will be accepted until January 31, 2016. All submissions must be accompanied by a submission form in or they will not be reviewed.

  • Composers must have a U.S. mailing address

  • Works will be accepted for the following instrumentation:

  • Solo flute, either unaccompanied or accompanied by piano and/or cello

  • Solo violin, either unaccompanied or accompanied by piano and/or cello

  • Soprano solo with piano accompaniment (cello may be included)

  • Vocal ensemble of 2-5 voices, either unaccompanied or accompanied by piano

  • Recorder duet or trio, with or without other instruments as indicated above

Submission instructions:

Each composer may submit up to three scores. There is no fee for entry. To submit, e-mail the following to ksp3@cornell.edu, with “Women’s Works Young Composer Competition” in the subject line:

  • Optional midi file, if available, in mp3 format
