Seneca Tompkins Music Educators Association All County Choral Festival January 17 and 18

The Ithaca City School District is hosting the Seneca-Tompkins Music Educators Association “All-County Choral Festival” this weekend January 17th and 18th, 2014, at the Ithaca High Performing Arts Center. There will be 280 of the most outstanding middle and high school singers from seven area school districts participating in the event. A free concert is scheduled on Saturday, February 18th at 3.00. Students from around the county come together to rehearse then perform, led by guest directors Joseph Stillitano and David Brown with accompanists Lisa Winans and Kristin Zaryski.

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, is assisting with hosting teachers and directors.

In addition to this concert, there are three concerts this week - Tuesday, LACS Band and Orchestra; Wednesday, DeWitt Choral; and Thursday, Boynton Band.

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) works in partnership with the Ithaca City School District to advocate, support and celebrate all the arts for all the kids. The Fine Arts Boosters strive for increased student access, participation and equity in the arts programs. The boosters believe the arts – music, dance and visual, literary and theater arts – are a central part of every child’s public school education. Visit www.fabgithaca.org.

IPEI is a not-for-profit organization that believes the education of every ICSD student is enhanced through community connections and support facilitated by IPEI for students and teachers through engagement, collaboration, gifts, and grants. Visit www.ipei.org.

Ongoing FABG initiatives include printing of all the performance booklets for concerts and drama productions in the middle and high schools; fundraising; Play It Again, Ithaca, the collection of used musical instruments and monies to purchase new instruments for use in the schools; and various advocacy efforts in support of arts in the schools.

FABG is open to all K-12 staff, parents, students and community members. Join the group and volunteer to work on goals – communication, advocacy, grant giving, fundraising, community connections, and instrument recycling.
