Message from ICSD Fine and Performing Arts Director, Daphne Shululu

On behalf of the performing arts staff, I want to thank you for your past support of the Arts and welcome your family if you are new to the ICSD school district!

As we prepare for the 2020-21 year, performing and fine arts performance and instruction will be done in an environment that aligns with state guidance and national studies that keep the ICSD community safe and enjoying the Arts.

While it is our great hope to adhere to the performance calendar for this upcoming 2020-21 academic year, we realize that circumstances may require mutual flexibility in the event of temporary closures, delays or delivery of the type of performance. Please know that, to the best of our ability, we plan to offer culminating musical events that will celebrate and honor the work of our students.

The Fall season of offerings will be provided through a blend of virtual performances and events. Winter and Spring performances will be determined based on ensuring the health and safety of our entire ICSD community closer to the time of these events.

We endeavor to create safe, excellent, authentic, affirming, anti-racist and culturally responsive experiences in music, art and theatre for all students. Classroom instruction will be a blend of both in person and remote learning until we can safely do otherwise. Curriculum will focus on creating, responding and connecting to art, music, theatre, through synchronous & asynchronous projects and providing authentic performance and exhibition opportunities for students.

Our priority is to further the creative potential of ICSD students while keeping our community safe.

As we move toward a path to #ReopenICSD, we will be launching a call for creative content that expresses #WhyIWearAMask, #WhatSchoolMeansToMe and #ItIsUp2UsIthaca. This content will be displayed on the ICSD website in the Reopen ICSD gallery alongside the digital time capsule.

We look forward to the time when we can gather together fully and safely again. Until we can do so, please join me in our effort to reopen ICSD in a way that is safe, inclusive and anti-racist.

Daphne Shululu
