The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with the Ithaca (New York) City School District to support and celebrate all the arts for all the kids. FABG is an affiliate of the Ithaca Public Education Initiative.

2019 Lee Strebel Award Winner Named, Congrats Raia Gutman

This is the time of year where there is change! We want to thank Mr. Makin, Ithaca High Orchestra teacher for his wonderful teaching and service. Mr. Makin will be relocating to another area. Thank you for all your work with the orchestra and clubs.

Please remember to vote on May 21. The vote will include the school budget, a capital project and electing Board of Education members.

The number of students wanting to participate in the arts has increased, thus this budget includes an increase in instrumental music teachers. The capital plan, in its second phase, includes improvements to Boynton and DeWitt auditoriums.

Shout out to NYSSMA helpers

SHOUT OUT to Michael Allen, the FABG and the ICSD music faculty for organizing, supporting and preparing ICSD music students for the NYSSMA festival last weekend at Boynton middle school! Over 1500 students from 9 counties participated! This is the third year ICSD hosted, thank you Michael Allen for your dedication and for everyone who helped with the event.

In addition, this is the third year ICSD was recognized by The NAMM Foundation for its “outstanding commitment to music education” A SHOUT OUT to all of you for nurturing the creative talents of our students and working everyday to help make Ithaca one of the Best Communities for Music Education!

Help FABG and ICSD at NYSSMA on May 3 and 4


The Ithaca City School District (ICSD) is host to the New York State Schools Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo and Ensemble Festival on May 3 and 4, 2019 at Boynton Middle School. More than 1,400 students will come to Ithaca from several counties to perform for professional evaluators. Students set self-learning goals that go above and beyond their classroom work in solo and ensemble pieces, and they perform for judges.

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) assists in this effort and is seeking adult volunteers to help host this event. Volunteers help guide students and families to their evaluation room, provide judge assistance and more....(read more)

7th Year ICSD is Recognized by NAMM for Best Community for Music Education

ICSD Recognized for Commitment to Music Education

The Ithaca City School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This is the seventh consecutive year that the ICSD has received this designation. The award program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education. Boynton Orchestra Congrats!

Results: 6th Grade Orchestra - Level II - GOLD!!! A GOLD rating is given to groups who have demonstrated an outstanding level of technical and artistic skill in all of the evaluative categories (Tone, Intonation, Balance, Technique, Accuracy/Execution, Rhythm, Interpretation, etc) for all 3 musical selections.

Boynton Chamber Orchestra - Level III - GOLD WITH DISTINCTION!!! A rating of GOLD WITH DISTINCTION is awarded to those groups who quality for a Gold Rating, while having achieved a standard of performance deemed exceptional in all three selections.
