The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with the Ithaca (New York) City School District to support and celebrate all the arts for all the kids. FABG is an affiliate of the Ithaca Public Education Initiative.

Congrats teachers! From the Saltonstall Newsletter

Welcome, Tompkins County teachers! And the winners are… Congratulations to the ten local teachers who entered our lottery in January and won a free, all-inclusive retreat at Saltonstall.

In February, we’ll welcome: Mary Balfour, a speech and language pathologist in the Dryden school district; Abigail Bokaer, a kindergarten teacher at Fall Creek Elementary; Jon Raimon, a humanities teacher and service learning coordinator at LACS; Mihal Ronen, a 2nd grade teacher at Fall Creek Elementary; and Keith Thompson, a social studies teacher at Ithaca High School.

FABG General Meeting Jan 22

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, will hold a general meeting Monday, January 22, 2018 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the Ithaca High School Performing Arts Center Lobby, 1401 N. Cayuga Street. The Fine Arts Booster Group supports all the arts in all the elementary and secondary schools in the Ithaca City School District (ICSD).The meeting is open to parents/caregivers, staff, students, and community members.

The public is invited to hear presentations from ICSD Fine Arts and Peforming Arts Director David Brown regarding the “State of the Arts”, as well as classroom instruction information from teachers. The boosters will also review the year’s activities and discuss upcoming goals. Refreshments will be provided at the meeting.

New Book Features Boynton Band Special Projects

IHS grad Gary Stith’s new book includes an overview of the special projects offered to students who participate in the Boynton Band Program. Entitled The Conductor’s Companion: 100 Rehearsal Techniques, Imaginative Ideas, Quotes and Facts, it includes many innovative ideas along with a sincere and passionate foreword penned by Tim Lautzenheiser. Special Free Concert January 12, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. with former ICSD student Cristina Cutts Dougherty

Former student Cristina Cutts Dougherty will return to teach ICSD students and perform a special tuba recital concert. Cutts Dougherty will also be a soloist at the free Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Boynton Middle School concert also held at the Performing Arts Center. As a part of her residency, DeWitt and Boynton Middle School bands and Ithaca High band members will meet with her. Students at Boynton and Ithaca High will also have in-school lessons.

Cutts Dougherty began playing tuba when she was nine years-old in Ithaca, NY and has been inspired by the constant encouragement she received, even after moving away, from her 6th-grade band teacher, Michael Allen....(read more)

Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts Partners with Fine Arts Boosters to Host Teacher Retreat: Deadline Announced

The Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, in partnership with the Fine Arts Booster Group

(FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, is offering a creative retreat for teachers of the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) teachers and other districts in Tompkins County during the February and March school breaks. The program is designed to provide residency-type retreats for local teachers in the following disciplines: creative writing, photography/film/video, and painting/sculpture/visual art. The program is totally free to attend. Teachers are selected through a lottery system. The application deadline is January 20, 2018, and the application is available at www.saltonstall.org/teachers. FINE ARTS BOOSTER GROUP AWARDS GRANTS TO SUPPORT ITHACA ARTS EDUCATION

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, has awarded $2,720 in grants to 5 Ithaca City School District (ICSD) projects that will reach 579 students. Funded projects include support for Ithaca High’s Visual Arts Memory Project; Beverly J. Martin Elementary’s “All in a Day” with dancer Lisa Tsetse; Combined District Jazz bands will learn from jazz artist Nick Weiser; Boynton Middle Schools guest artist master tuba player ICSD alum Cristina Dougherty; and Lehman Alternative School’s mural project with artist Mary Beth Ihnken....(read more)

Little Apple Fall Follies seeks ushers

The Little Apple Fall Follies, a variety show of the Rotary and Savage Clubs, is set for Saturday, Oct 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Ithaca High School Performing Arts Center’s Kulp Auditorium. This show benefits the arts in Ithaca, including the Ithaca City School District. The Fine Arts Booster Group helps with concessions and ushering. Can you help us? Then you can see the show!

Play it Again, Ithaca” – Used Musical Instruments Needed

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) through its “Play it Again, Ithaca” program collects donated used musical instruments to support the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) music education program. Instruments donated to the FABG are professionally repaired, and become part of the ICSD collection of instruments available for free use to students in the district.

FABG and the ICSD provide students who might not otherwise have access to instruments an opportunity to participate in band or orchestra. The ICSD arts program allows students to take free instrumental lessons during school hours and participate in the school musical groups....(read more)

ARTS MINI-GRANT DEADLINE: October 15, 2017

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, has mini-grants available for dance, drama, music, and visual arts projects that engage students. The Fall 2017 deadline is October 15, and Spring 2018 is February 1 for electronic submission. Ithaca City School District (ICSD) teachers and principals are eligible to apply. Applications are available online at www.fabgithaca.org/receive , by phone 256-4734, or email FABGgrants@ipei.org. In 2017-2018, applicants now will use online forms for easy submission of applications.
