JEMM GRANTS ACCESS TO MUSIC

The Josh Endo Memorial for Continuing Support of Music Education (JEMM) Fund, a fund of the Ithaca Public Education Initiative (IPEI), recently announced the 2015-16 award of $1,000. JEMM annually supports music education needs with priority for elementary student instrument rental scholarships and secondary student instrumental music group trip scholarships. The IPEI Fund administers JEMM with help from the Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an IPEI affiliate. JEMM celebrates the late Josh Endo’s love of music and his music education in the Ithaca City School District (ICSD).

ICSD Chief Administrative Officer David Brown expressed his gratitude for the grant, “The ICSD Music Department humbly accepts the Josh Endo Memorial Fund to help offset rentals for families in need. In Ithaca no child is denied music instruction due to financial hardship. In addition, secondary instruction is enhanced by experiences outside the classroom, such as trips. Josh was a dedicated musician in our program throughout his years here and we are so glad this memorial fund can help students pursue their interests in music.”

The Fine Arts Boosters support all the arts for all the kids. FABG strives to foster appreciation for the arts, advocate for the arts, and improve learning opportunities for all. To reach these goals, the boosters fundraise, communicate, form partnerships and give grants. Formed in 2001 as an affiliate of IPEI, the boosters believe the arts – music, dance and visual, literary and theater arts – are a central part of every child’s public school education.
