Laurel from the Ithaca Public Education Initiative (IPEI)

IPEI thanks all individuals and businesses that made our Adult Spelling Bee such a success on Sunday, March 1. Thanks to generous event and team sponsors; and silent auction and refreshment donors, over $26,000 was raised to help fund IPEI grants for teachers.

Our event sponsors were Chemung Canal Trust Company, Blue Ribbon Sponsor; Wells Fargo Advisors, Red Ribbon Sponsor; and Sciarabba Walker and Cayuga Radio Group, Gold Ribbon Sponsors. Bee officials were Geoff Dunn, Ralph Jones, Deborah Lynn, Paulette Manos, Jean McPheeters, Susan Piliero and Zoya Segelbacher, and Honorary Beekeepers Robin Davisson, Mike Wayne, Deb Mohlenhoff, and Rob Ainslie.

The 28 teams of spellers, 38 team sponsors, and over 300 spectators who attended the Bee were awesome. Thank you!

Thanks to Barny Cole, Calf Audio, Torri Bennington, Westhill Graphics, Steve Cass of WRED and his students, the student volunteers from Code Red Robotics and the DeWitt National Honor Society, and Bee Fairies Meira Braun and Grace Blodgett. Thanks to B&W Supply, BOCES Print Shop, and Cornell Laundry, and to the Ithaca City School District for the event space.

Finally, IPEI appreciates the generosity of 36 local businesses and individuals who donated silent auction and team prize items, 10 local eateries that provided refreshments, and 11 local businesses that advertised in the Bee program (see lists at
