The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with the Ithaca (New York) City School District to support and celebrate all the arts for all the kids. FABG is an affiliate of the Ithaca Public Education Initiative.

Join us for Fall 2012 General Meeting

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, will hold a general meeting to meet the new Ithaca City School District Fine Arts Director David Brown on October 25, 2012, 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Boynton Middle School cafeteria. The public is invited to hear about this new position, the district vision, current issues, Mr. Brown’s previous experiences and ways parents and community members can support student learning in the arts. Snacks will be provided.

Ithaca Schools Name Arts Director

David Brown has been named the director of Fine and Performing Arts for the Ithaca City School District.

The position was created through the reallocation of existing resources. Brown comes from Fayetteville-Manlius schools, where he served as the district coordinator of music since 2007. Under his leadership, Fayetteville-Manlius has been a Top 100 school for music education. Previously, Brown was instructor for music at Pittsford Central Schools....(read more)

MiniGrants Now Available for 2012-2012 Year, Fall Deadline Oct. 30

The Ithaca Community Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, has teacher mini-grants available for dance, drama, music and visual arts support or projects. The 2012-2013 fall deadline is October 30, 2012, for electronic submission. Ithaca City School District teachers and principals are eligible to apply and applications are available online at www.fabgithaca.org/receive or by calling 277-4631 or emailing president@fabgithaca.org . The spring deadline is February 1, 2013,

Past mini-grants have included Kindergarten through Grade 12 support for visiting artists, a student art exhibit, theater supplies, a mural and a pre-school dance residency, for example. Since 2001, the Fine Arts Boosters have awarded over $100,000 in grants for district activities....(read more)

Booster Meeting March 29

The Fine Arts Booster Group will hold a general meeting March 29, 2012, 7-8:30 p.m. in the Boynton Middle School cafeteria. The public is invited to hear about the state of the arts from district music and art liaisons Michael Allen and Carol Spence. Updates on curriculum, current arts activities and other issues will be presented. The boosters serve all the elementary, middle and high schools in the Ithaca District.

Co-Curricular Scholarship Grants Awarded

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, recently awarded grants to Boynton Middle, DeWitt Middle, Lehman Alternative Community and Ithaca High Schools for co-curricular music trip scholarships, totaling $5,000. “In preparation for our tenth year, the booster group held a retreat and evaluated our mission through meetings and a survey. Survey respondents reaffirmed the desire to make the arts accessible to all. Our district works hard to do that. The boosters felt scholarships was another way we could help support students”, stated Booster President Tina Mollenkamp. “The overwhelming support we received through the Arts Alive Fund last year confirmed the community’s support for arts education.”

Rella and Barney Cohn Scholarship Announced

Summer Scholarship Honors Music Educators: Donor Recognized at Concert

IPEI and the Fine Arts Booster Group announce the Rella and Barney Cohn Music Scholarship Fund, established by Abby Cohn in memory of her parents and in honor of the excellent music education available in the Ithaca City School District public schools. The fund will provide annual music scholarships for summer study through the Ithaca Youth Bureau Summer Band and Orchestra Program.

“Continuing music education is important to students’ overall academic, artistic and social development. Summer time music activities help middle school students, in particular, solidify their skills and continue music study into their high school years,” notes Abby Cohn....(read more)
