The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with the Ithaca (New York) City School District to support and celebrate all the arts for all the kids. FABG is an affiliate of the Ithaca Public Education Initiative.

SALTONSTALL ARTS COLONY SUPPORTS ICSD TEACHERS: TEACHER RESIDENCY PROJECT APPLICATIONS DUE JANUARY 25

The Saltonstall Arts Colony, in partnership with the Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, is offering a five-day, four-night retreat for Ithaca City School District (ICSD) teachers February 15 – 19, 2013. This pilot project is designed to provide a residency-type retreat experience for local ICSD teachers in the following disciplines: creative writing, photography/film/video, and painting/sculpture/visual art. The program is totally free to attend and five teachers will be selected through a lottery system. Overnight stays are encouraged but not mandatory. Fall Grant Awards

ARTS MINI-GRANTS AWARDED TO TEACHERS

(Ithaca) The Ithaca Community Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, has awarded $5,575 in mini-grants to area Ithaca City District Schools serving 1,880 students. Funded projects include: artist visits to schools, drama club support, dance and drumming workshops, and collaborative book illustrating.

Funds are raised through Fine Arts Booster Group performance booklet ad sales. The boosters produce performance booklets for middle and high school concerts and plays, totaling over thirty events each year.

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, will hold a general meeting to meet the new Ithaca City School District Fine Arts Director David Brown on October 25, 2012, 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Boynton Middle School cafeteria. The public is invited to hear about this new position, the district vision, current issues, Mr. Brown’s previous experiences and ways parents and community members can support student learning in the arts. Snacks will be provided.

Ithaca Schools Name Arts Director

David Brown has been named the director of Fine and Performing Arts for the Ithaca City School District.

The position was created through the reallocation of existing resources. Brown comes from Fayetteville-Manlius schools, where he served as the district coordinator of music since 2007. Under his leadership, Fayetteville-Manlius has been a Top 100 school for music education. Previously, Brown was instructor for music at Pittsford Central Schools....(read more)

MiniGrants Now Available for 2012-2012 Year, Fall Deadline Oct. 30

The Ithaca Community Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, has teacher mini-grants available for dance, drama, music and visual arts support or projects. The 2012-2013 fall deadline is October 30, 2012, for electronic submission. Ithaca City School District teachers and principals are eligible to apply and applications are available online at www.fabgithaca.org/receive or by calling 277-4631 or emailing president@fabgithaca.org . The spring deadline is February 1, 2013,

Past mini-grants have included Kindergarten through Grade 12 support for visiting artists, a student art exhibit, theater supplies, a mural and a pre-school dance residency, for example. Since 2001, the Fine Arts Boosters have awarded over $100,000 in grants for district activities....(read more)
