The Little Apple Fall Follies, a variety show of the Rotary and Savage Clubs, is set for Saturday, Oct 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Ithaca High School Performing Arts Center’s Kulp Auditorium. This show benefits the arts in Ithaca, including the Ithaca City School District. The Fine Arts Booster Group helps with concessions and ushering. Can you help us? Then you can see the show!

Play it Again, Ithaca” – Used Musical Instruments Needed

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) through its “Play it Again, Ithaca” program collects donated used musical instruments to support the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) music education program. Instruments donated to the FABG are professionally repaired, and become part of the ICSD collection of instruments available for free use to students in the district.

FABG and the ICSD provide students who might not otherwise have access to instruments an opportunity to participate in band or orchestra. ARTS MINI-GRANT DEADLINE: October 15, 2017

The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, has mini-grants available for dance, drama, music, and visual arts projects that engage students. The Fall 2017 deadline is October 15, and Spring 2018 is February 1 for electronic submission. Ithaca City School District (ICSD) teachers and principals are eligible to apply. Applications are available online at www.fabgithaca.org/receive , by phone 256-4734, or email FABGgrants@ipei.org. In 2017-2018, applicants now will use online forms for easy submission of applications. Rella and Barney Cohn Music Scholarship Fund, an IPEI Fund, Awards Grant

The Fine Arts Booster Group, an affiliate of the Ithaca Public Education Initiative (IPEI), announces summer music scholarships awarded through the Rella and Barney Cohn Music Scholarship Fund. Established by Abby Cohn in memory of her parents and in honor of the excellent music education available in the Ithaca City School District (ICSD), the fund will provide more than five music scholarships for summer study through the Ithaca Youth Bureau (IYB) Summer Band and Orchestra Program. The Rella and Barney Cohn Music Scholarship Fund is administered by IPEI with assistance from the Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG) and the IYB. Contact president@fabgithaca.org for more information.

Emily Morse named Lee Strebel Memorial Award Winner

Lorraine Tino and  Emily Morse_0.JPG Emily Morse was named as the recipient of the 2017 Lee Strebel Memorial Award for Enthusiasm in the Performing Arts. Emily accepted the award at the Ithaca High School (I.H.S.) Underclassmen Awards Night, June 6, 2017 in I.H.S. Performing Arts Center’s Kulp Auditorium. The Lee Strebel Memorial Award is presented each year to an I.H.S. student who has not only participated in performing arts at the high school level, but has shown extraordinary spirit in that pursuit.

Monday, February 13, 2017, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the Ithaca High School Fine and Performing Arts

Center lobby. The public is invited to hear arts updates from Chief Administrative Officer David

Brown, interim Fine and Performing Arts Director Steve Beamish, music teacher Karla Notarianni

and art teacher Ana Goldsmith, as well as information about FABG goals. The boosters serve all

the elementary and secondary schools in the Ithaca City School District (ICSD). The public is

invited. Food will be provided.

Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts Partners with Fine Arts Boosters to Host Teacher Retreat: Teachers Announced

The Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, in partnership with the Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, is offering a creative retreat for teachers of the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) teachers and other districts in Tompkins County during the February and April school breaks. The program is designed to provide residency-type retreats for local teachers in the following disciplines: creative writing, photography/film/video, and painting/sculpture/visual art. The Saltonstall Foundation and Arts Colony, in partnership with the Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, is offering a five-day, four-night retreat for Ithaca City School District (ICSD) teachers during the school break weeks of February 18-22, 2017 and April 15-19, 2017. New this year is the choice of weeks and the opportunity to experience the retreat with teachers from other districts. This residency is designed to provide a residency-type retreat for local ICSD teachers in the following disciplines: creative writing, photography/film/video, and painting/sculpture/visual art.
